Fulton Hogan Road Sweepers

LC Hydraulics and Pirtek Northland was engaged by well known New Zealand civil company Fulton Hogan in 2011 to design and build five highway maintenance truck hydraulic systems. LCH were also challenged to create a completely new prototype – a front mounted road sweeping broom to mount on the front of these trucks.

The brooms would be required to extend out from the front bumper, then lower and slew from left to right all with the broom spinning. Then once the sweeping task had been completed, the brooms needed to retract back to a safe travel position against the front bumper.

LC Hydraulics and Pirtek Northland successfully built the five trucks to specification, exceeding Fulton Hogan’s original requirements and developing a product unique to the New Zealand civil industry.

As well as the requirements outlined above, the hydraulic circuit designed for the trucks also controls hydraulically driven traffic arrow boards, a plate compactor lift, rear mounted chip spreader and tipping hoist.
